Client: City Renewal Authority

Residents and traders empowered to deliver projects for their neighbourhood in partnership with the City Renewal Authority.

In partnership with CRA, Oculus and Right Angle, CoDesign Studio (now Fourfold Studio) developed an evidence-based, action-oriented and coordinated placemaking plan and event calendar to revitalise the inner city suburb of Braddon, ACT.

The strategy provides short-term actions, like installations, activations and minor public-realm improvements to enhance the physical and social aspects of Braddon’s already established identity. Additionally, it puts in place longer-term actions, designs and strategies for public-realm improvements and placemaking activities that will further enhance Braddon as a destination precinct.

A highly collaborative and place-based approach was adopted including the highlight engagement evening ‘Hello Braddon!’, an interactive event with live music, a grazing table showcasing produce from local businesses, and a live artist illustrating ideas for the precinct.

Actions from the plan were developed with key stakeholders. Our process enabled residents and businesses to take ownership of smaller actions to make an authentic contribution to Braddon. The trader and residential community are committed to the success of the plan and are currently in the process of partnering with the government to deliver the plan enabled by private investment and city grant funding platforms.

In 2019, this project was awarded a planning award for excellence by the Planning Institute of Australia.

You can view the plan here.
