Coastal Areas Building Design Review
Hands-on community input into local planning decisions regarding Moreton Bay’s much loved coastal areas.
In 2023, City of Moreton Bay began the Coastal Areas Building Design Review project, focused on Redcliffe Peninsula, Deception Bay, and Bribie Island.
Like many places across SEQ, City of Moreton Bay’s coastal areas are experiencing significant population growth and in-turn increased development, which in many instances result in changes to the areas urban fabric. The purpose of the project was to determine community sentiment toward the features of coastal buildings, seeking to ensure future buildings are inspired by local identity.
This project required a highly experienced, multi-disciplinary team to ensure messaging around the planning process and building design process was clear and targeted. Fourfold Studio, Deicke Richards and Archipelago were appointed by Council to assist in project planning and delivery.
For each focus area, a series of community pop-ups and Community Reference Group meetings were held, for which community completed an EOI process. These sessions allowed the project team to deep-dive into community perspectives and unpack the key themes arising throughout the process.
