Lismore Laneways

A creative laneway upgrade, delivered in partnership with local businesses and creatives, that breathed new life into this underutilised space.

Client: Lismore City Council

Fourfold Studio in partnership with Vee Design adopted a crossdisciplinary approach to revitalise the existing laneways in Lismore’s City Centre. Our collective brought together the community, business owners, local creatives and local government to generate ideas to improve the visitor experience of the laneways and in turn boost the local economy.

This approach collates a multitude of ideas that focus on both social infrastructure and physical improvements to reinvigorate an underutilised space and city asset. The approach underpinning the project outcome was to test ideas before implementing expensive infrastructure and leveraging local assets and talent to catalyse momentum.

Alongside other interventions, the project saw the community group behind The Back Alley Gallery distribute funds to artists to implement creative wayfinding and street art throughout the laneway network. This allowed for creative expression throughout the space that drew visitation from locals and visitors alike. One of the artworks, the ‘You are here’ heart has become one of the key landmark features of the township, particularly during the floods.
