Parks, Recreation & Placemaking Strategy

Western Downs Regional Council has a bold vision for their region, driven by the passion of their local community.

Western Downs Regional Council embarked on a journey to create a five-year Parks, Recreation and Placemaking Strategy. The strategy focused on the revitalisation of existing spaces and creating new, vibrant spaces to deliver essential services, host events, attract tourism, improve community engagement and the overall experiences within the region.

Fourfold Studio facilitated internal and external engagement to inform a unified strategy that considers a vision and guiding principles for the region. A two week roadshow saw intensive community engagement undertaken to inspire citizen-led action and discover the unique characteristics of each town.

The insights and aspirations discovered have revealed the opportunities for each community to be empowered to reinvigorate spaces in their area in ways that make sense in a local context. The vision harnesses unique identities to kickstart local economies and attract tourists and visitors to the region.

Client: Western Downs Regional Council

Fourfold Studio synthesised engagement outputs applying their industry knowledge and expertise to make recommendations for the region.

With many projects underway and recently completed including the Miles Streetscape Revitalisation and Dalby Cultural Centre project, the Western Downs is going from strength to strength and feel increasingly empowered to innovate and come up with creative placemaking ideas in conjunction with the community.
